Sesshin is an opportunity for intensive practice over the course of 3 days. We cultivate mindfulness through simple daily activities, and “settle in” to deeper meditation and awareness. Our simplest activity, breathing, reminds us to return to this moment… and this moment… and this moment. Oneness can manifest itself as we naturally release the mind’s inclinations and impulses by returning to the breath.
The retreat will be led by Sensei Ray Cicetti, a Zen teacher who leads the Empty Bowl Zendo in Morristown, New Jersey. He is also a psychotherapist in private practice with an emphasis on stress-related problems, relationship issues, and bringing spirit back into the therapeutic relationship. He is married with a grown son and two grandchildren. Ray is a dharma heir of Roshi Robert Kennedy (S.J.).
The sesshin will consist of zazen (sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation), chanting, dharma talks, and silent communal meals. There are also rest breaks, and samu (service assignments). There will be the opportunity for daisan (private interview) for those who wish to meet with the teacher. There is also free time for you to spend by yourself in your room or in walking around the attractive grounds.
The retreat is conducted in silence from the beginning of meditation on Thursday evening until the end of meditation on Sunday morning, including mealtimes.
The $300 retreat cost includes a $100 non-refundable deposit, and provides:
- Private ensuite sleeping accommodation
- Meals from dinner on Thursday evening to Sunday lunch
Partial scholarships are also available. Please contact Sandra Moore for more information.
